Tom Albanese is an expert on international metals and mining sector. He is the former Chief Executive Officer of Vedanta Resources plc, and Rio Tinto, two of the world’s leading mining and natural resource companies.

Mr. Albanese was the Chief Executive of Vedanta Resources Plc (LSE, UK) and the CEO of Vedanta Ltd (BSE, India) from March 2014 to August 2017.  Prior to this he was an advisor to Vedanta from September 2013 until his CEO Appointment.

Vedanta is a large, global, diversified mining, power, and oil and gas company and India’s leading natural resources producer.  In conjunction with his leadership at Vedanta, Mr. Albanese was Chairman of Konkola Copper Mines (KCM), one of the largest producers of copper and cobalt in Zambia from 2014 until January 2018.

Mr. Albanese brings a wealth of mining experience from Rio Tinto, the second largest global diversified mining company, where he was appointed a member of the Rio Tinto Board in March 2006 and the Chief Executive for the period beginning May 2007 to January 2013.

Mr. Albanese is currently Lead Independent Director of Nevada Copper Corporation, a Canadian Listed company developing a permitted project in the U.S.

For the period 2009 – June 2015, Mr. Albanese served on the Board of Visitors for the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University in North Carolina, U.S. In August 2013, Mr. Albanese was appointed on the Board of Directors of Franco Nevada Corporation, a Toronto-based gold-focused royalty and metal streaming company with assets around the world.

Mr. Albanese’s keen interest in supporting policy reforms to emerging issues and challenges being faced by the Mining sector led to his appointment as Co-Chair of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) National Committee on Mining for the year 2016 – 2017.

In recognition of his distinguished leadership and service to the mining industry, Mr. Albanese was conferred with the ‘Mining Foundation of the Southwest’ 2009 American Mining Hall of Fame Award.

He attended the University of Alaska in Fairbanks where he received a bachelor's degree in mineral economics and, two years later, a master's degree in mining engineering.
