Why Public Input Matters

Comments from the public are a very important part of the overall BOEM review process. Once the RFI has been published, there is a 30-day public comment period (which is sometimes extended) that allows interested and concerned parties to submit information and suggestions for BOEM’s consideration. BOEM considers public input an important part of its review process when evaluating potential mineral leasing.

How to Submit Comments to BOEM 

In order to submit a comment and voice your opinion on BOEM’s Offshore Virginia RFI, follow these simple steps:

1.     Visit the Federal Register’s website to view the RFI at this link: Federal Register.

2.     Click “Submit A Public Comment”

3.     Type your comment and contact information in the space provided.

Comments on the RFI can include any information, suggestions, or concerns for BOEM’s consideration regarding the size and location of potential outer continental shelf mineral leasing. They should be as specific and as detailed as possible to ensure every concern is addressed.

As a reminder, the public comment period began on June 23, 2026, and will close on July 23, 2026 at 11:59 pm EST.
